M/S Overheads
Stereo Overhead tracks are recorded in M/S. Use a decoder such as JS Kanaka MS5 to change the sound to L/R stereo.
(explain M/S here)
Feel free to move the tracks around in time. A wide range of tone and behaviour can be achieved this way
Be sure to flip the individual channel phase switches from time to time for even more variety.
"Just because its on tape doesn't mean you have to use it!"
Mute any tracks to experiment what their individual effect on the sound is. Sometimes you'll just want a close mic or a room track
Filter me!
Use hipass and lowpass filters liberally to alter constructive and destructive interference between tracks.
Peak level means NOTHING to your ears!
Use a VU meter and adjust the volumes between samples to taste. I tend to use a 1.5dB RMS spread (5 msec attack 200 msec release) for the calculations. This is how the gogs and ReaPlacer files were made.
